Post Production: Blog 34/29/2017 We've finally finished our terminator movie clip and we feel as though it sounds fantastic. Through constant layering of crashes and bangs we've managed to nail that car crash sound. Ant made us analyse each factor of the crash and we started from the littlest things like the car sound, the material of the entrance, the material of the kiosk and the sound of the room. Everything played a role (no matter how minute) in shaping the sound of that car crash. Nic managed to get recordings of a car engine revving and staying in idle and once we put that in, we noticed a whole lot of difference, that was the moment when we realised this thing is going to work. Speaking of the material of the kiosk, it sounded similar to the first impact the car had on the entrance, and so we managed to recreate the second impact sound by trying to emulate the sound of wood crashing. We also had to change the sound with regards to Sarah Connor (she was in another room) and make it seem as though the car crash was coming from another room. Ant taught us a very good and useful trick of applying a low pass filter on everything (except the music lol) because that's the only thing one hears in another room. Speaking of eq, we also eq'd a lot of the vocals and applied reverb on the vocals to mimic the sound of someone who was inside a glass room. At the end of all of this, I realised Sound in Post Production adds great value to what the product can be and should be, and we must never be scared of experimenting and trying new things to get a greater result.
