Live Sound: Blog 23/25/2017 This week Tim almost gave me a heart attack when he said we were to do a 15 minute mix. First and foremost, I had no idea what the desk did and didn't know what knob did what and what fader did what, I was literally shitting bricks and volunteered not to go first. Some of the boys called shotgun and I was relieved since I had enough time to analyse exactly what was being done and hopefully try to replicate what they were doing in general, the problem was that the only person who knew the desk in and out already did his 15 minute mix during the lunch break because he had to leave home early. So we all were in the same boat because none of us knew how to properly operate the desk. By the time it came to me, I was a little confident as to what to do, I just applied my knowledge on applying compressions, gates and editing the levels, but the desk got the better of me when I was down to the minute and had eq'd the vocals but I forgot to switch it on Live. (I'm still kicking myself for that) By the end of my 15 minute mix, Tim was satisfied with my performance and I could take a sigh of relief. Tim did mention at the end of the class that people learn the most during that 15 minutes than all the classes put together, and I can testify to that.
